For each scenario below, choose the most appropriate answer from the list above. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.
1. A 52 year old male develops increased haemolysis associated with pain and profound anaemia 1 week after receiving a red blood cell transfusion for sepsis.
2. A 64 year old man with group A, Rh(D)-negative blood who had acute myeloblastic leukaemia experiences back pain, flushing and chills and he passed red urine shortly after receiving a transfusion. Fever and hypotension were not observed.
3. A 72 year old woman with a fracture of the left femoral bone is transfused with packed red cells. 2 hours later she develops shortness of breath and becomes hypoxic.
4. A 25 year old male is treated for haemorrhagic shock following a motorcycle accident. He becomes acidotic and develops hypothermia. The registrar on duty mentions that he has clotting difficulties.
5. A 54 year old male recently underwent bone marrow transplantation. 10 days after a transfusion, he develops fever, and an erythematous maculopapular rash. A biopsy of the affected skin as well as HLA analysis confirms your diagnosis.
